Ball & Chain is a historic and world famous live music venue located at 1513 Southwest 8th Street, Miami, FL 33135, in the center of Little Havana. The retro jazz bar on Calle Ocho was reborn in September 2014 as a live music venue with an authentic Cuban flare and meticulously redecorated in iconic 1950s Miami style by new ownership Ben Bush, Zack Bush and Bill Fuller.   Before the area became a harbor for Cuban refugees, the bar “On the Trail” (Tamiami Trail) from the mid-1930s to late 1950s was a popular late-night stomping ground for many of the world’s most famous jazz musicians including Louis Armstrong, Billie Holiday, Count Basie, and Chet Baker.  The revived entertainment venue has reclaimed its reputation as a power player in Miami’s nightlife scene with a 3,000 square-foot interior and a 3,500 square-foot patio both outfitted for live music. The music scene at Ball & Chain infuses contemporary sounds with old school jazz and salsa. The venue features live music daily. The iconic bar features a top shelf and premium liquor bar, signature and special craft cocktails, as well as a Cuban inspired tapas menu.  Ball & Chain is open from 12PM to 12AM from Monday through Wednesday, 12PM to 3AM Thursday, Friday, Saturday and 2PM to 10PM on Sundays.  Happy Hour is Monday through Sunday starting at 4PM to 7PM featuring two for one specialty cocktails.  For additional info please visit www.ballandchainmiami.com.

Jessie Jones Jr.
Jesse is a soulful player and entertainer out of Miami, Florida that has it all. Jones has been performing internationally for over 20 years sharing his musical talent in places in Russia, Germany, Italy, Ukraine, etc.

Through the many years of performing, he has performed with Donald Byrd, Blue Mitchell, Dexter Gordon, Joe Williams, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Eartha Kitt, Clark Terry, Allan Harris, Ira Sullivan, Melton Mustafa, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Monty Alexander, to name a few.

He combines the hard-bop influence of Cannonball Adderley, the funk of Hank Crawford, and the sweetness of Paul Desmond. Their influences may be detected within Jesse's riffs. Add to that some of the most unusual "scat" jazz singing when Jesse sings "straight" or through his horns, and the jazz audiences go wild. The humor is international in scope since these are not words but rather sounds that move and groove with the music.

Little Jake & The Soul Searchers Leads Off African American Music Month at Bo Diddley Plaza

When they want it to be a PARTY,
they call on Little Jake Mitchell!

Bringing people together for
good times EVERY time they
take the stage!

Friday, June 2, 2017 ~ 8-10pm
Friday Night Free Music Series
Bo Diddley Downtown Community Plaza
111 E. University Avenue
Gainesville, FL 32601
MAP
http://gnvculturalseries.org/free-fridays-concert-series/

Little Jake Mitchell is an authentic blues child prodigy and R&B singer who works as hard today as he did in his appearances at the Apollo Theater; as hard as he did on tour as "Mr. Excitement" with R&B immortals James Brown, Jackie Wilson, Sam Cooke, and Bobby Blue Bland, or at the Pensacola Blues Festival, when B. B. King encouraged him to stay in show business.

Little Jake & The Soul Searchers—that's what you get when you combine Jake with The Silver-Sonic Horns and a powerful rhythm section. The band recalls authentic R&B stagecraft in support of a classic repertoire of soulful songs. Depending on the venue, Jake and the band treat audiences to sights and sounds seldom seen or heard since the golden age of R&B: opening singers, Tran “The Piano Man” Whitley and drummer, Hal "Halag8r" Saylor; a dynamic, audience-walking lead singer; a strolling horn section; a full-time emcee/announcer, Kenny "The Conductor" Eunice; and one of the funkiest rhythm sections around. The band's roots are deep, featuring sidemen who worked with Ike and Tina Turner, Billy Joe Royal, Ernie K Doe, Hues Corporation, and other R&B and rock pioneers.

The Silver-Sonic Horns, originally organized as The Blacklash Horns by Charlie Blade, trace their heritage back to 1969 when initially formed as the horn section for one of Florida's R&B pioneer band, Weston Prim & Blacklash: Blade on saxes, and long-time collaborator Brian 'T-Bone' Stevens on trombone. They are joined by Doug 'Skywalker' Meyers on trumpet. Classic R&B section-horn energy, funky improvisation by the whole horn section, a great appearance, and a topnotch sound system make The Silver-Sonic Horns an integral part of the Jake Mitchell experience.

The rhythm section features keyboardist and vocalist, Tran Whitley, holding forth on the real deal—a vintage Hammond B3 organ that anchors the band. Tran is joined by seasoned guitarist / backup vocalist, Charles Henry, who can play it funky, and does. On Fender bass, with years of experience beginning with Billy Joe Royal's road band, Allen McCollum keeps the bass line bumping and jumping. Providing energetic pulse and punctuation, and featured as an opening vocalist in every show: Hal Saylor on drums.

Little Jake Mitchell is one of Florida's great native-son ambassadors in rhythm and blues music. Little Jake & The Soul Searchers deliver authentic style and classic repertoire at every performance.
