Graham Wood Drout of IKO IKO fame featured, again, in CITYLINK art article

#JazzBluesFlorida #jazz #blues #Florida #Concerts #Festivals #Clubs

Check out today's CITYLINK article on Graham!

Fresh Art: Drout
Posted on November 17, 2010 Art, Fresh Art, Local art
by Colleen Dougher

"Anyone who lives in South Florida and follows local music may know that Graham Wood Drout, the lead singer for roots-blues band Iko Iko, is a respected songwriter with a talent for storytelling. But some people may not know that he’s also a visual artist. “I have a degree in fine arts from FIU, and what happened was I met some knuckleheads who played blues at an art department party in Homestead back in ’78,” he explains."

Florida's Bear Creek Music Festival: Partying Like It's 1969 - Great review by Bill Meredith

#JazzBluesFlorida #jazz #blues #Florida #Concerts #Festivals #Clubs

From JazzTimes

"Bear Creek Music Festival: Partying Like It's 1969
Review of the sprawling funk, jam and jazz fest in Live Oak, Florida on November 10-14, 2010

Sunday was the dessert portion of the fest, as the Brian Stoltz Band (led by the Funky Meters guitarist) brought the Big Easy to an afternoon crowd at Uncle Charlie's Porch Stage. And New York City collective Lettuce, featuring Kininger, Krasno and Neal Evans, closed the Big IV Ampitheater with the historic additional horn section of Parker, Ellis and Wesley.

Already announced for next November's fifth annual Bear Creek is Medeski, Martin & Wood; John Scofield & Piety Street, The Funky Meters, Karl Denson's Tiny Universe, Ivan Neville's Dumpstaphunk, Lettuce, George Porter Jr., Jon Cleary, Pimps of Showtime, and Medeski, Scofield, Martin & Wood."

Florida's First Blues Trail Marker to be Presented to Bradfordville Blues Club November 20, 2010 - Bobby Rush Concert to Follow

#JazzBluesFlorida #jazz #blues #Florida #Concerts #Festivals #Clubs

Welcome to the Mississippi Blues Trail. This is an unforgettable journey into the land that spawned the single most important root source of modern popular music. Whether you're a die-hard blues fan or a casual traveler in search of an interesting trip, you'll find facts you didn't know, places you've never seen, and you'll gain a new appreciation for the area that gave birth to the blues.

Information regarding the upcoming out-of-state marker in Tallahassee, Florida.

This will be the 8th out-of-state marker for the Mississippi Blues Trail and is indeed a milestone for the state of Mississippi and the Mississippi Blues Commission.

The event will take place on Saturday, November 20, 2010 at 5:00 PM (marker ceremony will take place with reception following, local entertainment will follow with a performance by Legendary Bluesman, Bobby Rush at 10:00 PM. Online or phone RSVP NECESSARY - Event will sell out!)

Location:

Bradfordville Blues Club
7152 Moses Lane
Tallahassee, FL, 32309
(850) 906-0766
bradfordvilleblues.com

The Mississippi Blues Trail markers tell stories through words and images of bluesmen and women and how the places where they lived and the times in which they existed–and continue to exist–influenced their music. The sites run the gamut from city streets to cotton fields, train depots to cemeteries, and clubs to churches. We have a lot to share, and it's just down the Mississippi Blues Trail.
