Blues Triple Header - Ricci, Sheba & Kelly to Perform Sept 17 at The High Dive in Gainesville FL

BIG BAD
Blues Triple Header!
Featuring
JASON RICCI & THE BAD KIND
BRIDGET KELLY BAND
SHEBA THE MISSISSIPPI QUEEN
TICKETS

One of the most revolutionary, unorthodox, and influential Blues Musicians is coming to town, courtesy of the North Central Florida Blues Society! Jason Ricci & the Bad Kind (as featured in this month's issue of JAZZ & BLUES FLORIDA!) are based in New Orleans and that gumbo of genres has influenced Ricci's Blues. "I want a band with swagger. When I was down in New Orleans, I really fell in love with drums and bass and the way New Orleans’ rhythm sections sound and the way all those street beats are so prominent in the music. This group plays blues and plays funk, really, really well.” Jason has received multiple Blues Music Award Nominations from 2009 – 2016, winning in 2010.

Jason was a featured performer on Johnny Winter’s Grammy award winning CD ‘Step Back’ (2014), and when the late Paul Butterfield and the Paul Butterfield Blues Band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Jason is who they wisely chose to play with Zac Brown & Tom Morello. Sheba the Mississippi Queen and the Bridget Kelly Band are the perfect artists to be on this show. When you hear Sheba’s voice, you hear the influences of Billy Holiday, Etta James, Tina Turner, Aretha, and Big Mama Thornton. The Bridget Kelly Band is a two-time semifinalist at the International Blues Challenge and their newest album, Bone Rattler, is #1 on the Roots Music Review Electric Blues Album Chart.

Tallahassee's Blue Tavern - Schedule Change/Update AND NOW SERVING FOOD!

"A Room Full of People"

First, the good news: We are now serving food! Yes, the kitchen is up and running, and so far the reviews have been outstanding. A simple menu of sandwiches, hot dogs, and red beans & rice is available. Come check out what Maggie's been cooking this week! Of course, this means no more bringing in outside food, but you probably won't miss it too much...

The bad news is that we had to cancel tonight's (Saturday) performance of Lis & Lon Williamson with Tim Higgins. The Williamsons' house in Gatorbone has become a refuge for family members and they have to stay put for now. Not to mention the roads just being bumper-to-bumper between here and there. So we'll have to have them back sometime soon.

Tonight we're going to go easy, with Walter Belmont and some friends coming in to play blues, so if you're looking for a place to go while you're contemplating Irma, José, and their friends, come on down. We'll serve up some red beans & rice and you'll forget all your worries.

Meanwhile, here's the lineup for the coming week. All shows are all-ages, non-smoking/vaping. (There's a nice smoking lounge in the back yard: ashtrays, tables, the works!)

Q. What's better than a roomful of people?
A. A roomful of people and live music!

The Ritz Theatre Jax Presents Raul Midon - Bad Ass and Blind Tour Sept 16, 2017

Raul Midon
Vocalist, songwriter
and amazing guitarist!

Saturday, September 16, 2017 ~ 8pm
829 N. Davis St.
Jacksonville, FL 32202

The Ritz Theatre and Museum is proud to welcome Cuban musician, Raul Midón on Saturday, September 16 at 8pm.

Ever since the turn of the 21st century, singer-songwriter and guitarist Raul Midón has been one of music’s most distinctive and searching voices – “a one-man band… who is spiritually connected,” according to The New York Times, and “an eclectic adventurist,” in the words of People magazine. The New Mexico native, blind since birth, has released eight albums since 1999, including the acclaimed studio productions Don’t Hesitate (Mack Avenue/Artistry, 2014), Synthesis (Decca/Universal, 2009), A World Within a World (Manhattan/EMI, 2007) and State of Mind (Manhattan/EMI, 2005). Midón’s diverse musicality makes him, as the Huffington Post put it, “a free man beyond category.” Attesting to his enduring ambitions is Midón’s ninth studio album, Bad Ass and Blind, was released via Mack Avenue/Artistry Music on March 24, 2017.
